Retail Sales Associate Job Description 

Mellow Monkey is seeking a Part Time Retail Sales Associate with an infectious, positive attitude to join our team in our Stratford, Connecticut store.

As a Retail Sales Associate, you will be responsible for all sales activities and sales associate job duties, including greeting customers, answering questions, offering assistance, suggesting items, lending opinions and providing product information. 

Individual responsibilities as a Retail Sales Associate include demonstrating outstanding customer service and selling skills, processing of online orders, keeping the selling floor stocked with merchandise, assisting in display of merchandise, organizing the selling floor and stock areas, cleaning of showrooms, receiving, unpacking, inspecting and stocking new merchandise and creating/updating product listings.  The role may also include supporting and/or participating in live virtual shopping events or in person shopping events. 

A Retail Sale Associate must process payments by totaling purchases, processing cash, gift cards and credit cards. You must be able to deal with customer refunds courteously and professionally. You are required to consistently maintain a professional attitude with sincerity and enthusiasm reflecting store's commitment to our customer to always making customers feel like it is their Happy Place!  You are also required to develop product knowledge by reviewing products and their suggested use in order to communicate this to the customer. You must also stay current with promotional events and sales. 


  • Basic understanding of sales principles and customer service practices 
  • Proficient in verbal and written English language 
  • Knowledge of customer and market dynamics and requirements 
  • Ability to use iOS point of sale system
  • Proficient in use of Windows based computer systems and social media (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, etc.)
  • Ability to create product listings and write product description content.

  • Physical demands: This position involves constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, grabbing and standing for at least two consecutive hours. May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, lifting and unpacking boxes or crates. 
  • A focus on customer service and on consistently delivering a unique shopping experience where customers are free to explore our products without having a sales associate hover over them – while at the same time maintaining an intuitive awareness if and when customers may require assistance. 
  • Enthusiastic, friendly and energetic with a genuine desire to provide outstanding service. 
  • Intuitive and aware of store surroundings and preventing potential theft and shoplifting. 
  • Available to work a variety of hours, which may include mornings, evenings, and weekends shifts. 
  • You must be able to perform the duties of the job while wearing a KN95 face mask at all times (provided by the store at no charge.)  Note: this requirement subject to change at management’s discretion. 
  • You MUST be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and receive CDC recommended vaccination booster shots when available.
  • Ability to perform pre-opening and closing shift work including but not limited to replacing products that have been misplaced by customers, restocking products in the showroom, wiping down and disinfecting all common surfaces and electronics, vacuuming and mopping of showroom floor, sweeping warehouse areas, trash removal, cleaning bathrooms, and periodic sanitization of common areas. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred
  • BS degree in Marketing or related field would be a plus
