2026–2027 USA Winner • Global Innovation Awards
A little store on a dead-end street. A very big honor.
Mellow Monkey has been named the 2026–2027 USA winner of the Global Innovation Awards (gia) for home + housewares retail excellence.
Next stop: Chicago in 2027, where we’ll join fellow national winners from around the world for consideration as a gia Global Honoree.
Apparently, people have been paying attention to what’s happening at the end of Sniffens Lane.
What the award recognizes
Retail excellence, from the displays to the details.
Organized and globally sponsored by the International Housewares Association and The Inspired Home Show, gia celebrates excellence, business innovation and creative merchandising in homegoods retailing.
Launched in 2000, the program brings together retailers and industry publications reaching more than 50 countries.
It’s an international celebration of the work that makes a store worth discovering—and worth coming back to.
More than a good-looking shelf
What goes into retail excellence?

The Mellow Monkey approach
The fun store for fun people.
We’ve grown from an online business launched in 2011 into a destination gift and home décor store with three showrooms in Stratford, Connecticut.
Our approach is to make shopping feel like discovering something: an unexpected gift, a card that says exactly the wrong thing in exactly the right way, or a piece for your home you weren’t looking for.
Add a sense of humor, a team that cares and a community willing to seek us out, and you have Mellow Monkey.
What happens next
USA winner today. Global honors in the running for 2027.
As a national winner, Mellow Monkey will join the international gia celebration at The Inspired Home Show in Chicago in 2027.
A special global jury selects five gia Global Honorees from the national winners. We’re proud to be in that group of contenders and to bring a little Stratford personality to the international stage.
We haven’t won a global honor yet. But we’re very much in the running. Howard may need to pack something other than shorts. No commitments have been made.
To our customers, team and community
You helped make this happen.
Every visit, recommendation, shared post and “you have to see this place” has helped build Mellow Monkey. So has the work of our team, who bring the store to life every day.
Thank you for making this unusual little destination part of your lives. We’re proud of this award—and proud to share it with you.
