- One of the great Japanese landscape artists of all time, Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) created views of his native Japan that are celebrated throughout the world. His distinct style blends Western influences with the meisho Japanese tradition. Inspired by Hiroshige, David Howell created this pattern of cherry blossoms to evoke the essence of Spring. Still early in the season, the flowers dance on leafless branches against the blue sky.
